Mussel Rock Park, Daily City, CA

The Mussel Rock Gabion Wall & Storm Maintenance project in Mussel Rock Park, Daly City, CA, was a critical public works initiative completed by Brannon Corporation to address severe coastal erosion and improve stormwater management in this environmentally sensitive area. Mussel Rock Park is known for its steep coastal bluffs, which are highly susceptible to erosion caused by wind, rain, and ocean wave action. This project aimed to stabilize the slopes, prevent further land loss, and protect the natural landscape.

Our team began with site clearing and vegetation removal, carefully preparing the area while minimizing disruption to the park’s ecosystem. We then performed earthwork and grading to reshape the terrain and improve drainage, reducing the risk of landslides and further soil loss. A key feature of this project was the construction of a gabion wall, a proven erosion control method using rock-filled wire baskets to stabilize the bluff face and dissipate the energy of flowing water.
To further enhance erosion control, we implemented seeding and other soil stabilization measures, encouraging vegetation regrowth to help anchor the soil and reduce surface runoff. Additionally, our team completed a silt basin cleanout and repair, ensuring that sediment and debris were effectively managed to prevent clogging of natural drainage channels. The installation of a stormwater conveyance pipe helped direct water flow safely away from erosion-prone areas, mitigating further degradation of the slopes.

The Mussel Rock Gabion Wall & Storm Maintenance project highlights Brannon Corporation’s expertise in coastal erosion control, slope stabilization, and sustainable stormwater management. Our work ensures that Mussel Rock Park remains a safe and accessible natural space while protecting the fragile coastal environment from ongoing erosion and storm damage.
